    This is late but
    I like to make personalized placemats each month for hubby and it never fails that he spills/drops something on them within a few days.
    So, I made a nice vinyl envelope (sewed 3 sides with the 4th tucked inside the back).
    And now I make all my placemats to fit inside these and they always look nice.
