Try using toothpaste, not the whitening kind. It will take the sting out and you will NOT have any scars. Trust me, I've used it. Burned my left hand with grease couple years ago. Put toothpaste on it and left it for a couple of hours. The next morning no one would know that I had been burned. It sounds crazy but it works.

The best burn treatment I've ever seen is "Foile". It is a tube of ointment that smells like rotten eggs but it works wonders. You may have to ask your pharmacist to order it but I always have it in the kitchen.
When I was 14 y.o. my mom was seriously burned when a 100 gal coffee urn errupted and burned her face, neck and breast. The owner of the restaurant immediately applied Foile to the burned area and someone took her to the hospital ER (before 911).
They kept her in the waiting room untreated for five hours waiting for a burn specialist! (Long story, heads rolled.)
The doctor said foile was what kept her from blistering. She had 2nd degree burns and NO SCARS!

From an ER nurse
If it blisters it is a second degree burn and do not pop the blisters. If they pop on their own, watch for infection. If it is your fingertips, that is where the most nerve endings are so that may be why you have lingering pain. Usually pain means continuing burning-so you may want to call your doc. Please do not put any food items or anything else like that on it. Cool water-no ice

Gotta get another ice cube!!!

I am an herbalist. You need to put lavender on IMMEDIATELY after the burn occurs or it won't stop the blistering. I have used it straight on any and all burns (especially from the curling iron) and have never EVER blistered. Keeping it on during the healing process will eliminate scars.
Here is the story of lavender. "Lavender oil and burn treatment have a long history. A French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse in the early 1900 was working in his lab and burned his hand severely. He then stuck his hand in a nearby container of lavender oil. He discovered his hand not only stopped hurting, it healed faster and didn't scar."

So many different rememdies. One day I was cleaning the stove and took all the burners off . I put one back on to use. A little later I went back and put the rest on forgetting that the one was hot. I use to push my stove coils down with the palm of my hand. Ended up with a nice circle burn on my palm. Said many nasty words and grabbed for the lavender that I kept on my window sill. However it wasn't lavender I grabbed it was tea tree oil. Didn't realize it until after I had poured it on my hand, it burned like the dickens and I said lots more bad words. Then I realized, about 3 minutes or less that my hand didn't hurt anymore. Within an hour I was using it to drive. No pain, no blisters nothing.

The good news is that you didn't burn deep enough down to destroy the layer of your skin that is rich in nerves, so it is only a first or second degree burn (you can read about these on the web). It's important to keep the skin intact as long as you can to prevent infection, so don't pop those blisters that might form if you can help it. If you have to, keep the area covered for several days so healing can take place underneath the damaged skin until it inevitably begins to peel/shred off.

I've had it on an ice pack since (well over an hour) and it still really burns when I take it off the ice pack. I'm finally seeing some white patches which I'm assuming are blisters. This is just on a couple of fingers - not a huge area. (Oh, I really feel for people that have major burns!!!!) Other than keeping it cold for a while more, and clean (it isn't like the skin is open) - is there anything else to do? I've put aloe on it, and now lavender. Still really hurts! And of course it's on my right hand (I'm right handed)
BURNS
Apply prescription burn cream called Silvadene (the generic equivalent is silver sulfadiazine). This is an antibiotic cream that has excellent healing ...
