If you smell a rat, error on the side of caution! I've sold alot of things on craigslist, and have had pretty good luck with it. When my frame shop was open I had a call about making 1000 frames and the scam sounded similar. They were going to send me a money order and I was to ship the frames along with a refund of the overpayment. I just said I was too busy to deal with it and hung up.

It's a shame people actually sit around and think of ways to rip off other people.

i had the same thing happen when i sold my too-small quilter and frame. sending the mo, mover picking it up, yada, yada, yada. he spoke with an accent. i checked it by trying to return an email and getting some weird company name. i told him not to send anything. he should have the mover bring cash and should arrange for a mover himself. goodbye, buyer.

craigslist tells you at the top of the page that money orders are suspect.

Something similar happened to my husband and I. We are trying to sell a Toyota Tundra for 3500$ and we got an email saying this person wanted our "item" and would send us a Cashier's Check in the amount we wanted BUT also added to that A "fee" for the movers to pick it up. We were to send the "extra" to an off shore bank for confirmation.Got the cashiers check via UPS and it was for $6000!!!! Anyways my husband took it to the local police whom told us the same thing and NOT to cash it or we'd be responsible for it. The add was placed in our local newspaper classifieds! So you always should be aware no matter what place you advertise in/on

His name was Ernie and he wanted to make sure I would sell it to him and what would I take as my final price, I told him my price and he agreed to it and asked me to take the posting down as a sign that it was sold to him. I did so and then I received another e-mail saying he would be sending me a postal money order. OK so then he goes on to say that I will need to send the extra money from the money order to a mover who will be picking up the bed. He also explained in explicit detail how I was to make the money order out when it arrived. The money orders arrived yesterday. There were two money orders of $950 each! I smelled a scam so I called the local police and they said if I had taken the MO's to the bank and cashed them and then sent the rest on to the mover, eventually the mo's would be discovered to be fraudulant and I would have been responsible for paying back all of that money. I only wanted $100 for the bed! The Sergeant I spoke with said that there are many of these scams going on and many on craigslist. You can bet I am going to be extra careful from now on.

Someone tried a scam on my son when he was renting out a room, sent a picture and everything. He emailed back that he hoped she looked like her picture because her brains were not going to get her anywhere.

Wow! Glad you didn't fall for this jerk's story. Hubby saw one about a motorcycle, it would be shipped from California. Something about the whole thing sound pretty strange. We did some checking found out it was a scam. Nasty greedly bad people out there.
