I agree - this is the way to go. I would never keep going around this beauty over an over, taking a chance of wavy lines. Make the border separate - then attach.

I am not ver accomplished at quilting yet but with such a beautiful and detailed pattern I think a simple, plain border that wont distract from the main portion. Awesome quilt no matter how you finish it.

This is stunning! (And this is just one of the inspirations I was looking for when I joined this board. Good heavens!) I'm sure however you decide to finish the border, it will be wonderful. BTW, how big are the 9 patches so I can get the scale?

What size is the quilt top right now (before borders)? I have to ask -- I'm just in awe looking at it!
Must admit, though - if it were me, I'd probably do some piecing so you hit the 10,000 mark in pieces, just to be able to say you'd done it. This is one of those 'once in a lifetime' quilts that will be passed on to future generations, and its absolutely amazing!
