Hi, I'm new to this board so hi from Montana!! I don't own a Janome but wanted to put my 2cents in! I bought a Brother (computer-type machine) and it was great until one night it was sewing normally and then it slowed down to tiny little stitches and then it resumed its normal stitch and then started to stitch backwards! I couldn't believe it-I called the company and of course they never heard of their machines doing any of this, but they told me it was a new model and maybe had a few bugs to work out.( I needed to hear that ) and so I returned it and got another one and so far so good. I have always had a Singer so I wasn't sure if I wanted to try a Brother but my friend had one and loved it, so I bought this one. I do really like it. I sews quietly and makes a really nice seam and when it stops the needle is in the up position! (doesn't take much to make me happy).

LOL...I used to work for Viking. I was making a project on the Designer Diamond and it took me a while to realize that the foot pedal was inching its way under the back of the sewing table as I sewed and perpetually staying in the "ON" position!...as though my foot were still on the pedal-which it was but only the front half!:) LOL It would probably be a good idea to have this issue evaluated by a licensed repair person...don't you think?/Lissa

I have no faith in my Janome repair person either. I think it is like the car mechanic that doesn't believe when women come in with their cars. I took it in once for the losing the take up thread thing and he had every excuse in the book as to why it was doing that. Every excuse except that the machine has issues (which I find out later it does).

As for the mechanic I had a Suburban once that would just cut off while going down the road at 50. Lose all power and breaks and everything. Over and over they could find nothing wrong. Nor could they get it to do it. So eventually they replaced the electronic ignition $600.00. When I went to pick it up the mechanic went to bring me the car. He turned the wheel to pull into the parking lot and it cut off on him and he almost took out three new cars on the lot. His face went white. He was only going 10-15 at the time. I said to him how would he like to have that happen going 50? It was a loose wire. I got my $600.00 back. They believe me now.

K....I was thinking of you last night while I was quilting Hugs & Kisses.
Sewing along, going nice, then all of a sudden...gggggggrrrrrr comes out of my machine. I panicked! OH NO! I thought. NOT a good thing, but I DO have another machine as a standby...whew!
So...I stop, count to 10 and start again. THE MACHINE STARTS RUNNING BACKWARDS!!! Yup! BACKWARDS!! There is NO WAY it can go backwards without me pushing the little button which is at the top of the machine. So, thinking maybe I nicked it or something, I stop and try again....AGAIN, backwards. I shut the machine off, walk away for a few minutes, go back in and it's now sewing fine.!
Weird, huh?

I think the lizards are getting to your machine. Yes that is weird. I hope it doesn't continue.

Just odd...but having some really odd things happening around here....Twilight Zone!

You know, maybe I am a little off here, but we shouldn't have to do crazy things to our machines so they work. Don't they run them thru every imaginable thing that could happen before they put them out on the market??? Seriously, if they can't troubleshoot before they turn them loose on an unsuspecting public, at least enclose a handbook that says "this machine will do------(fill in the blank) and we don't know why. You're on your own."


ps. threaten to report those rotten repair men to the BBB in your state and they will make the wrong right-they hate to be on the bad list and the BBB will settle the complaint for you.

Oh you have to use it! I have the 1600P and it is awesome!!!! Between the thread cutter button and the knee lift, I don't have to take my hands off my sewing really at all (except to push the little button)!

But watch it, there are times my leg gets confused and tries to sew with the knee lift and raise the pressure foot with the pedal!

I think she is telling you that she likes it warm and cozy where she is and doesn't want to live where it could snow!!!

Just a comment on the knee lift-I use mine all the time and at first i was confusing it with the foot pedal. but now i useit when i'm FMQ and when i'm piecing. it is a great tool and saves time and energy and not too much coordination!
