Default Featherweight sews on its own

My Singer Featherweight 221 works just fine most of the time, but occasionally it starts sewing by itself. I turn the on/off switch to off, but it just keeps sewing. The only way to stop it is to remove the power cord. I found instructions on how to remove the capacitors; however, my foot pedal does not look like the pictures in these instructions. Looks like it does not have any capacitor This may have already been discussed, but I could not find it. Any ideas/suggestions?

The on/off switch just controls the light, not power to the whole machine. If you have a newer style electronic foot pedal, make sure the little lever inside springs back completely to stop the flow of electricity. I'll dig around, I have a post with a pic somewhere when I had the same problem.

Featherweights came with capacitors in the foot controller and sometimes in the underside of the machine. Take the drip pan off and check in there for one too.

My 15/91♥ was doing something like that and what I did to stop it was turn the electric plug around. Something to do with the polarity? But it worked. Ü Monica♥

That's a fire hazard, so be sure you don't walk away and leave it plugged in. Take the foot control apart and make sure the "plunger" on the outside is moving freely. You may need to sand the hole or the plunger itself. Then you may need to stretch out the spring (just a little), so it has more pushing power, to push it back up.

I always unplug my machines when I'm not using them. Just in case . . .

Same here - just want to be sure they're off.
