I go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy plexiglass. (The thin one) It works wonders. It's easy to cut. They have even cut the entire sheet up for me in a couple different common sizes!! I make a sleeve (pillow case) and it slips right inside and looks very finished. You can actually slip the plexiglass out of one cover and in to the next purse you will be using.

It's the best I've found so far!!

I've had good luck with using plastic canvas, covered with Warm & Natural batting, then I make a sleeve for it out of the lining fabric. Also, a friend suggested that I could use the plastic cutting boards you can get at any Dollar store for very little - but I think I would also cover that with batting and lining fabric, as I like the looks of the padded bottom.

I found the samples of flooring strips are the perfect size for a bottom. I cover it in fabric and put a small strip of Velcro on the bottom to hold it firm in the tote. They are .98 or less at Lowes if you want the newest floor. Free if the floor is discontinued. LOL

I, too, use foam board. I love the weight and it's easy to cut with an old rotary cutter blade. You can make a lot of purse bottoms from one piece. I got mine at Hobby Lobby.

When I put any base in I cover with fabric and leave one short seam no sewn. This enables you to pull base out and wash all the fabric easily.

I get old thin cutting boards at yard sales. They also make good templates.

I have used recycled campaign signs. It is usually white plastic and looks like corrugated cardboard , waterproof, very sturdy and free! Easy to cut and you can make the size needed and make a fabric sleeve to match your bag.
