This week I'm averaging a few hours every day as I need to finish the project I'm working on. I really would like to keep this schedule up but my everyday life needs have to be take care of too. I have arthritis in my left knee and if I sit and sew for too many hours I get some swelling in that leg so I try to get up from the sewing machine often to press and put stuff back into my stash, etc. Somedays I keep saying to myself I'll be going upstairs to my sewing room as soon as I finish this, or that and I never make it. Let's hope today I get up there.

Hours per week? 15 to 25 in sewing room, least probably 8, most 30
    (includes all hand work crafts)

Related road trips? for sewing/felting/punchneedle/woolwork craft supplies, embellishment supplies, fabric looking, new quilt shop exploring? 1 to 2 times a week

    Quilt guild meetings - 2Xmonth. Sewing with others - 1 to 4Xmonth

Reading related magazines/books - daily. Forums - daily.

Surprisingly (to me at least), I also have time to read, play with grandchildren, quality time with DH, garden (in season), family and friend get togethers. Life is good!

I used to think I needed to get a life - - - but I really enjoy my time in the sewing room. I worked outside the home forever and raised 4 kids, now I can do what I want to do - so I sew every single day. :D
Ditto --If I am at home, I am generally in my sewing room. Love to sew. I, too, am retired, and although I do quite a bit of community things sewing is my passion.

When I have a project in the works, I usually quilt about 6-8 hours a day.

I feel SO guilty! You put me to shame
I sew first and leave the chores until I "have" to do them. Oh, what I wouldn't give for some of your organizational skills and "umph!"

I am retired so I sew several hours a day and for 4 hours straight with a group on Monday nights. Maybe 16 hours a week.

Ditto. I also try to spend the majority of my weekend sewing if I don't have other obligations.

Well sense being all alone I find myself in my sewing room everynight... Great thing to take up my time and make my evenings go quick.

My children are grown and my husband sleeps a lot due to cancer, so I have lots of time to sew. I would guess that on average, I sew 15 hours a week.

Since I retired, I've enjoyed my sewing room so much. And since we remodeled last fall, my house is so much easier to keep clean and straight, that now I have lots more time to quilt. It's my passion.

It got me to wondering how many hours you spend sewing each week. Do you make "sewing time" a regular part of your routine...get up, breakfast, read the paper, sewing time....
Being retired and living in an active retirement community, I quilt or work on a quilt in some form all the time. As a hand quilter, every time I sit down, there is a quilt in my hands. At the same time another quilt is in the process of being pieced. I use a quilt as you go method where I quilt in panels. By the time one panel is quilted, the next is pieced and ready to be added on to quilt. I try not to end up as I am at the moment without any hand quilting to do. Actually I do have a top ready to sandwich but have to get going on a birthday gift quilt that needs to be completed by March 23rd. Cut it out this afternoon and hope to get the top pieced tonight so I can sandwich tomorrow or the next day and begin quilting. Since this is a gift for a friend, it will be mostly machine quilted. Only family get my hand quilted quilts.

I'm involved with quilting as often as possible in the course of the day but I also do other things as well as it's never to overdo on doing anything. The key is to enjoy it. During the years I worked, I would take me 2 - 4 years to complete a queen sized quilt start to finish. Recently I'm doing twin quilts for 7 grandchildren plus our quilt chapter projects.

How prolific you are as a quilter isn't important. How much you enjoy quilting is important and if you're proud of your quilt when it's finished. I'm frequently told I'd be more prolific if I'd machine quilt but it honestly isn't my thing although I am trying to learn how to do basic machine quilting at the moment.

Being retired I'm with ladies who turn out quilts - yes plural each week and there is no way I can do that nor is it an affordable option for me. My family tell me that they feel all of the love that goes into each quilt that I'vemade for them and they look forward to ending each day wrapped up in a "grammy quilt." Recently I've been getting pressure to put a quilt into our upcoming quilt show but I don't need ribbons or accolades of others when I get a blue ribbon every time one of my family members uses and treasures my quilts which are machine pieced and hand sewn.
