I cleaned my sewing room up real neat and tidy a while ago. Everything was in its place - the surfaces were clean....and I was paralyzed in the space. I could not bring myself to work in the space. My DH told me to just pull out some projects and see what happens. So now I have about 4 projects out - and I am whittling down my list of UFOs is trying to shrink.

The room in general is still in order but my working space is organized chaos.

I like my room organized and decorated. To me, it feels like a happy place. It is more relaxing to work on projects when everything is organized. I find though, that in the middle of working on projects it does become more like chaos in there! (:

I actually have as much fun cleaning up the mess as I did making it, and the last time I cleaned up, I reorganized my fabric stash, which was a lot of fun!
I do it the same way. Right now I am in the middle of a project so it's kind of a mess! :D

I have recently spent time organizing my sewing room. My fabrics are sorted by size (1/2 yd. 1+yds., 2 -3 yds. 4-5 yds, wide backing fabrics, flannels, etc.) and stacked on the shelves in my closet. I love being able to see at a glance what fabrics I have. I have a large tote under my cutting table with fabrics for crazy quilts. I have a drawer tote with fat quarters and on a bookshelf on top of a dresser I have the clear plastic shoe boxes with charm squares cut from the fabrics smaller than 1/2 yd. These are sorted by color. My room does get messy when I am working but I try to get it organized as often as possible without taking up too much time from quilting.

wow such a variety of answers to this - I think it sounds like about half are organized and decorative and the half of you are chaos :)

Welcome to the forum....my sewing room has to function as a guestroom too...when I have guest then the room looks nice , but when I work it is a mess. Try to organize my stash but everytime I look for a matching fabric , the stash is all messed up because then, I want to sew not cleaning...but I don't care and the next time the room will look nice and tidy. is when I expect another guest

Organized when I'm not working on a quilt/chaos when working on a quilt! Actually, I can't handle chaos...so I try to put stuff away as I use it. Plastic bins and shoeboxes are a lifesaver! And LOTS of shelves.

it seems so many have a second use for their sewing room. I am lucky that I don't have that. My husband and I share the spare bedroom that is turned into our activity room - I have 3/4's of the room for my sewing and he has a corner for his computer stuff :) seems to work for me. The room is small though so everything is organized but also decorative - I like to work in a pretty room.

......multiple times!...... seems like it's time to start your own "personal" collection of tools and get a few much deserved projects done. You can do it! shelving isn't as difficult as you may think, just plan well, measure twice, cut once, grab that screw driver and have some fun!
