NEW Year means NEW Quilts!

Aborning, and others getting LA this holiday - Forget the quit tops for starters. Get some of the end of season fabric that you like on super sale prices, a dark and a light. Rack it onto the frame with the batting and sew away. Make the E's M's loop-de-loops, figure 8"s and cross hatching. Pounce designs on with your old quilt stencils and sew those. Trace the stencils you have onto computer paper and use that as a pantograph. Play with different thread weights and metallic threads. When you finish all that play quilting, cut the practice piece into place mats and table runners and bind. You'll get something usable, and you will not have fretted about fouling a quilt top. Use chalk to draw "quilt blocks and stars" to practice stitching in the ditch. You'll feel less inhibited with plain cloth, and get better and more courageous faster.

I'd like to do my One Block Wonder. I have the fabric and just want a wall hanging, so not too big. Guess I'll go for that one! It's supposed to go with the king size quilt I'm hand quilting, so need to get that done . . . Of course, I have other UFOs that I'd like to complete as well. And the list goes on . . .

I have 2 quilt projects for 2011.
1. A Civil War quilt using the book Facts & Fabrications: Unraveling the Story of Quilts and Slavery by Barbara Brackman. My plan is to do a block a month and then blog about the block, its meaning and why I chose it. My goal is to only get the 12 blocks finished and together. I've been collecting fabrics for some time, hopefully I have enough if not I'll have to do some shopping ;)
2. Finish a quilt that I've had problems with. I started it a good 4 year or so ago. The pattern is called Cheese & Crackers.

If I start now, maybe I'll get them done! McKenna Ryan's KaBloom Out & About and the beach one, Toni Whitney's cougar and owls, my fox and Rhodesian Ridgeback, my Epic Bears and my story quilt. I feel pretty sure that I can get them made and off to the quilter. I do not machine quilt and no longer have time to hand quilt. Love it!

1. Finish the Dresden plate I've started even if it becomes only a lap quilt;
2. Finish the Texas quilt I'm working on, complete with redwork, appliqued and pieced blocks;
3. Reduce my fabric inventory;
4. And when I'm not doing anything else, practice playing the guitar so that all the lessons I'm paying for won't be wasted.
May your Christmas be blessed and your new year productive and happy.
Peace and grace,
