Well, the 4th picture shouldn't be there, but it isn't in the body of the post to edit. So there it remains.

And I failed to rotate the tension. But I think that might have been the trick I was looking for.

Your tension is looking better, possibly a tiny bit tight, but certainly worth testing at this point.

The photos of the hook, this is with the needle completely at it's lowest position, or when it's on the upswing about 3/32" (in line with the lower of the 2 timing lines on the needlebar)? Either way it looks wrong, but I want to know anyway, so I know which way to advise you.

Tiny bit of upswing, I can't take a picture of it stopped at lowest, it doesn't rest there naturally and while my phone is a thing of wonder it doesn't take pictures by itself.
I suppose I could mention the timing was perfect before the tension blew up in the first place but since then I did take the bobbin area completely apart. I might have made a offering to the sewing machine gods to get that thing back together.

We can't tell anything with an interim position. I use painters tape when the things just don't want to stay put. Tape the handwheel to the motor at the right position and let us know if the needle and hook are in the right spot.

ETA: When the needle is on the upswing, not the downswing!

We're not really interested in the lowest position of the needle, I want the lower of the 2 timing lines on the needlebar in line with the metal collar, instead of the top line, and then I need to see what that hook and needle look like.

Tape the wheel when the line looks like this:

That's where it is in the picture. It won't stay at the flat bottom. Only the tiny upswing.

Ignore those pictures up in post 64. I can't remember at what point they were in the swing.

ETA: Actually I'm going to put it back together and test it out again before I do anything else. Just not right this second.
