With our Joann's, unless I have something specific in mind, I just wander. Usually I hit the rolled remnants, then just go down the middle aisle toward the quilting area and just look, glancing at sales along the way.

With my LQS, I have a list most of the time and look for colors and fabric that will fit that list. The LQS has very little sales, they are usually in one place, so I gravitate toward those.

I (try) to go find what I need first, then I shop the sales items (who doesnt love a good sale?!) and then I look at....usually everything else. And if hubby comes along, it takes even longer cuz he tends to seperate from me then go "ooo look at this one" to which I have to go and look at it.

I used to go to the new fabric line section first. But now that my sewing room is overflowing with fabric and since I just HAVE to come home with SOMETHING, I now wander through the store but head to the charm pack and jelly roll section last (if they have one) and am getting quite a collection of them instead of yardage. That way I go home with fabric but don't spend as much as I usually did for yardage. It works for me! I have quite a few patterns using charms that I downloaded for free from various websites and blogs. I have several WIP using them but that is another story......
