I've had minor back problems over the years and from sitting in offices and at my sewing machine I've found it is important to be careful about your setup. If my machine is too high my shoulders hurt so I took the casters off my sewing desk to lower it. I bought a used old office task chair on wheels. By having it firmly against my lower back it provides support.
I still hurt if I sew for a particularly long time but these measures help.

Yes, back gets tired and when I am wrestling with the finished quilt doing machine quilting or putting on the binding, the weight of the quilt really takes on my shoulders and my upper arms. Any suggestions for this? All of you have so many good ideas to help with everything! Thanks for being there!

I found a net back rest with elastic straps that go around your chair (I also use it in the car). It is $6.99 at CVS, but you can often find them at Dollar TREE. Has support, yet lets you move unlike a pillow does. Also has a little give for moving around.

Also on disability (possibly due to my spelling), but about the only thing I can do longer than an hour and a half is hand work. That's cuz I can stop and work my hands. Use a glove over KT tape (for tennis players and racquetball). Good for arthritis in wrist. I use it cuz recovering from having my wrist broken all the way and am still in OT.
