In Texas we have at will also. However when my DIL was "fired" when she was on medical leave, she sued and received a settlement. Keep checking, I think it might come under discrimation too.

A new toy that I ordered before I lost my job.
( Think I should send it back or keep it?)

Then my sis from Iowa sent me a care package. (Good timing mailing out that package sis!)
So now this evening I will set down and read over my instructions for my new toy and eat my Sterzings chips and dip... I will worry about being depressed tomorrow. lol..

Keep the Go and contact the Labor Board, as they can't fire you when not released by your doctor.

Exactly my thought!!!! Hopefully they put the reason for your termination in writing to you...(any way it should be in your personnel file with them) .... I would then gather documentation and get in touch with your Wage and Hour Division in your city.

On the other hand...how fortunate of you to get all these goodies when you did....

There's reasons for everything happening when it does.

Chin up and maybe you new toy will have you making things to sell....yeah.

Rachel, this is my thought exactly, but would you want to work for a company that treated you like that?

I would contact the labor board in my state.

This is true, they cant fire you because your DR. would not release you to go back! I have a Human Resource degree, Im telling you the truth. Call the HR department, explain what happened, Im sure they will take care of it for you!
And no, do not send it back! Keep it & have some fun!

thanks to all of you for your generous support on my issue.. Let me clear something up.

I was not fired by my boss. I was "seperated" (Fired) by my human resource dept. Every state has its different laws and unfortunatley Va's laws suck when it come to protecting a worker.
My husband was an HR Manager, and as long as there was no medical release by a treating physician the employee can't be fired (separated). There would have to be attempts by your employer (or in this case - the HR departmentand your department supervisor) to find some other job you could do if OK by your MD until you were released to resume your regular job.

I asked about a different job and she told me there was nothing I could do. I am going to contact my laywer monday and talk to her just to make sure there is nothing that can be done. I am sure they could not have fired me if I was on a workers comp issue but not so sure it is not legal considering it is not a work comp thing.

Good move. I'm sorry you have to resort of legal advice, but that's what they're there for.
Documention, documention....
and in the mean time...

Practice, practice, practice on your new toy...
Lucky you....

Wow! Some mailman!! Keep the new toy, chow down on the goodies. And remember that everything happens for a reason. Something better will come out of this. In the meantime, enjoy your time with your toy.
