Make sure that you have good lighting at your sewing machine. Poor lighting can cause you to lean toward the needle area, causing strain on your back.

I haven't seen anyone post this but I set my sewing on my adjustable ironing board. I can let it down and I use a computer desk chair that is also adjustable. I sew for hours, and can do the pressing as I set there as well Don't know if this will help anyone but it works for me. I also have a back pillow that I bought over 3o years ago. Don't know how it's lasted all these years, but I sure have gotten my $20.00 worth of use. I also use it when I'm sitting in my recliner too.

I've never heard of the rice bag but will be more than happy to try it. My back is killing me today since I have been doing windows and such and I sewed the panels of a Xmas tree skirt today and by then my back had had it. I can't seem to sit up straight at the machine and I tell myself to sit up but I'm always leaning forward again. Bad posture. Thanks for the suggestions I'm going to try both and see if it helps sure can't hurt. take care and thanks. Sue

 Sounds like I am not alone - that is for sure!

I have tried rasing the back of my machine. think I titled it a bot too much. But that seems like a good idea...will adjust the height.
Sitting far back in my rollaround chair - with bacside of me pressing against the back of the chair. FEELS GREAT. Funniest part is getting into that position using a ROLLING CHAIR ...no brakes...dang!

Taking many more breaks, esp. when I feel the tension building.
Also laying on the floor with feet rasied helps at the endof the day wonderfully.

Now to see what the other ideas do also. The rice-on-tummy is my next try.

THANK YOU ALL
JUlie
