I do this all the time. It is easy to take along hand sewing, crosstitch, embrodery and I even made a whole quilt top by hand once while traveling with my hubby.

I just took a rode trip from Omaha, NE to NY and I did some cross stitch, it wasn't easy but I did get two projects done and it made the trip go faster.

I tried to applique while riding and the stitches looked awful. I had to take them out so now I take quilt magazines along to ponder.

i'm a reader. best vacation ever involved a valise of books, and that annual trek out to new york/pa. hubby: "aren't you going to look at the scenery???" me: "it hasn't changed in the last 26 years. i'm on vacation. let me read." we were gone 2 weeks, and i polished off 26 books. loved every minute of it! i hadn't discovered the joys of quilting, then--only counted cross stitch and crochet. it would be a different drive, now!

I always carry a bag of things to do when we travel. A good book, various stitching projects. DH loves to drive, & wants to do all the driving, so I have to find things to keep me busy otherwise, or I would soon go crazy & be bored to death! We drove from here in NC, out to CA, then back, last year, camping along the way, & thank goodness I had handwork to keep me busy & sane!.... I would never leave home for a trip, without it!

I do have to add, after reading this reply, that if I was traveling on Rt. 19 in Florida, I could not knit or do anything else. I'd have a lot of dropped stitches and knots if I did. People drive like maniacs on that 8 lane road! But, in NH and Maine, no problem, at all.

I have the same problem, Lori. Have been this way my whole life. My mother has the problem and so does one of my daughters. I wonder if it's an inherited thing? I sure wish I could do handwork in the car, though.

I read, knit, crochet, crosstitch, needle-turn applique, do beadwork, and hand quilt in the car. Anything to keep my hands busy.

I love hand work on road trips - BF thinks my crafts are important to my sanity so he does the driving!
