Ok, the Featherweight has been christened "Nellie Belle," the treadle is "Old Girl," and the Janome now replaces the Bernina on the frame and is "Edna."

Hey, my nickname is also NelleBelle!
I have a Viking Designer SE, who is called "Essie". I just got a Viking Sapphire 370, but haven't used her enough to know what her name should be. So far, I just call her the "370", but I am sure it will change once we get to know each other better.
On a humorous note--my oldest son and his wife have always named their cats, "Kitty". When their first child was born, they didn't have a name for her for a few days. We teased them, asking if they were going to name her "Baby". They didn't--her name is Kelsey Marie, who is a beautiful 5 year old girl now!

My old Singer treadle is Sally...that's what she told me her name was! Now the Kenmore that I use and have had for almost 10 years is un named..she has yet to tell me her name! Now my van was named Big Bertha. The truck I drive now is called the Time Bomb.....long story! I think I'm the only one in the family that names machines and cars though. And yes i talk to them. When I bought my first car I had to cuss it every morning or it would NOT crank! My grandmother didn't believe me on that till she watched for a week....one morning I'd cuss it and it would crank...the next morning I didn't...she had to take me to work!

Right now I have a Bernina - but years ago when I started I had an Elna, and was lucky enough to have an extra bedroom in which to sew.

My then-first-grader grandson Alex told his teacher "My Grammy has a new sewing 'chine and it's name is Eleanor and she has her own bedroom!!"

Just got a used Bernina Aurora 440QE at the beginning of the summer. I am in love! Her name is Nina. Then she was lonely and I went back and got the embroidery module...her name is Fancy.

Oh, we name other things in my family too. My car is Goldie 2, my hubbies is Yoda, and the extra one is Kat. My guitar is named Lucy.

    Great thread!

"Old Reliable". I have had this same machine since 1992 and it almost never lets me down.

FYI, We sell many Featherweight 221s and ask each buyer what they would like to name their machine. We have only found one buyer out of over 150 that didn't want to name their 221. We also see that some sellers have decided to name the machine for the buyer...Wow, that's about like someone else giving a name to your first-born. Oh well
