It was, IMHO, the very poor quality of the flannel from Joann's......they do sell quilter's flannel, that is a bit better quality.......but with the nature of flannel to ravel and shrink, and with the time I have to put into my projects, I have come to the conclusion that if I cannot afford to buy the high quality flannel, then I do not do the project......try a second project, using very good quality flannel from your LQS and see what a difference it makes.

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL..........and I'll bet, using the very good quality quilter's flannel, that you did not have issues with the fabric warping, shrinking, etc. - right?

Vicki -

I love your quilt, it LOOKS soft and cuddly because of the soft colors. What a wonderful job - well done, I bet it was hard to part with even for granny.

I like to make baby quilts with any of the cute cotton fabric and then use a light weight batting and back it with a flannel that will color coordinate. I think the cotton side would be nice for the warm weather and then the flannel side would be oh so warm for the winter months.

Thanks all for the nice comments. Believe it or not that was the first time I pieced a quilt. I've been sewing since I was a kid but had never quilted. Now I'm hooked! The Benartex fabric was excellent! I didn't have any problems with it!

It's great for backing a child's or tv watching quilt - so soft and cuddly. I prewash. I made my husband what he calls his favorite "love quilt" with 8" blocks of flannel on front and back (one side with a 4" border to offset seam intersections). It is soft and comfy and great for naps or tv watching.

I use flannel fabric for quilts and backing -- Also, I buy my flannel at a quilt shop - cost more but the softness and durability for quilts is out of this world.....
My old quilt machine would rather quilt on flannel backing ha ha.
