When I do applique which is a lot
I trace my pattern on visaflex cut out all pieces
I then lay the baking paper over my design page,correct way
then I peel backing off the visafex and place on top of where it is to go, I keep it on the light box as heat from glass will stick but if I make a mistake I just peel it off and start again.then when I am completely happy with my creation I just lift the baking paper to the ironing board and press,I lay another piece of baking paper over the top of design ,justy to protect the iron.Hey presto your design is complete,just peel off baking paper and place on your garment and press and hey dito ready to hand sew or machine sew to secure.You can roll design up and leave in baking paper if you want to do it at a later date.
I do a lot of baby bibs and baby suites this way.I do not have any to show as ,as fast as I do them they are snapped up by my girls for gifts.
the paper from your computer paper I use well I want to turn under the edges of my applique and hand sew stitching hidden

Thanks Karinda...yes that does..actually used it similarly myself now that you've described how you use it.
The freezer paper will be used differently (not that I've tried it yet..lol). It will actually bond to the fabric but can be peeled off. Apparently good for doing turned applique.

I got a huge big roll of freezer paper (Reynolds) at a Craft & Quilt Show in Adelaide a few years ago,(the big one that does all states), have hardly used any, only for needle turn applique. Will prob. last me for-ever. Could send you some if you can't get it on GC.

I was a the Craft and Quilt show in Brisbane on the weekend but didn't look there..guess I should have..it was just so busy..lol.

Parchment paper wouldn't stick to anything. Freezer paper can be used over again a few times if you don't use an excessive amount of heat to apply.

I'm not familiar with visafex. It sounds awesome.

to aussies who want freezer paper or starch (best press) and lots of other goodies..there is an aussie website www.ozquilts.com.au they have it. I have not ordered from them yet but I am compiling a list of things I want..i mean need..they have some good reviews and send out orders fast (according to the reviews)

just thought I would let you know what visaflex is Hope I have spelt it correctly ,comes from the US
it is paper with a film or web mat (type of glue) on the back.when ironed to fabric it sticks,simple as that
what you do is trace your designs in reverse on to the paper side,over a light box ,window or what ever you use.
cut each design piece out with a scant 1/8th of an inch around it.then iron to the back of your material that is to be used in the design
I then place my design pattern sheet correct side up on the light box,with a piece of baking paper.over the design,then i cut out my pieces and peel off the paper and place it on the baking paper to where i have cut these pattern pieces for,the heat of the light box lets them adhere a little when completely satisfied with my applique i gently lift the baking paper off and take to the ironing board placing a piece of baking paper over the applique piece mainly to protect the iron from any glue fragments
your applique piece is complete now when ready peel design from your baking paper and place on whatever you are making,then you sew around each piece by hand or machine
I use this method all the time I do a lot of baby bibs and do t-shirts etc for my grandies and I made their quilts this way,as you can use such tiny pieces of fabric hence the panic of getting pieces to sit right.for turn under i think your freezer paper might be better .hope this has been of some help for you to understand what visaflex is used for

Hi Janice, glad you got your freezer paper, funny isn't it you may not use it for a while but once you hear about the benifits of an item it is annoying if you can not purchase it 'just in case you might need it.'
I have a nephew living at Minden (is in Airforce) and my son lived on the Gold Coast for 10 yrs. Was function's manager at Marriott, now back in Adelaide.
Enjoy your quilt making, but it is addictive. You will find wonderful help on this Board its great.

Thanks NannaJen..yes, it will sit for a while before I use it, I'm sure, but there's comfort in knowing it's there when I need it..lol.

Where are you NannaJen, if I may ask (you can pm me if you don't want to say here, as I see you're 'in hiding'). I'm an ex South Australian myself..been here 9 and half years on the Coast, but lived about 400 kms south of Adelaide all my life til then.
