the only colors you an use and not steal the thunder from the panel is beige and brown, imo. the panel is VERY subdued and any color will pop. how about straight borders of shades of browns separating the panels, or maybe shaped into smallish squares, so the panels remain the central focus? (nice panel, btw)

I wouldn't use the bargello directly against the panel. I'd border the panel in a solid color and then use the bargello - I think the separation would bring out both and show why they complement each other. JMHO.

You may also want to audition some of the other lighter colors as a border between the panel and bargello.
I love the colors you chose for the bargello to match the panel. This will be a beautiful quilt when done.
