I am definately going to use up some scraps this year to make some quilts. AND not to brag, but in 2009 I did make a quilt ENTIRELY from the selvage edge scraps I have collected for years and it won the "Arts Assembly" award at our local quilt guild show. I even used my stash for the backing. I was so proud & I was brought to tears when I saw my ribbon hanging on it at the show. (it is my avatar quilt)

I made a crazy quilt wall hanging for Christmas and didn't know who I was going to give it to.
As I was working on it, and it grew, and I was thinking of who 'deserved' it,
I decided I did.
So I kept it - a gift to myself and I really am glad I did!

I spent a fewe evenings last year sorting my scraps and cutting into the largest squares I could from each. I ended up with enought 3" squares to make a quilt and this is what came of them just sorting into light and dark. I have so many more scraps but now they are precut and ready to go.

Quiltmaker, what a great challenge - love it! There is something about scrap quilts. Maybe it's for their beauty? Maybe it's because they are so much fun and we get to play with lots different fabric in the process? Maybe it's the connection to the quilters of yester-year as you mentioned?
My current project and the one planned after it will be scrap quilts on the front and back.
