making a Tshirt quilt
#81
There is a mesh stabilizer that I use for embroidered quilt blocks. It is fusable. I think it would be perfect for t-shirt quilt blocks.
I am so sorry for the loss of your grandson. I have a son his age and just can't imagine the pain you must be feeling. My prayers are with you and your family.

I am truly sorry for your loss of your grandson. My daughter died at age 23, also, but they couldn't find a cause, so I know the pain you are feeling. I think a T-shirt quilt would be a wonderful way to keep him close. I've never made one, but my husband has been saving his to use like this, so I've gotten a couple of books on the subject. I've heard you should use fusible tricot (knit)stabilizer, because it would have the same kind of give as T-shirt fabric. To get the best stabilizing, fuse the tricot with the stretch going the opposite of the shirt's stretch. You can also use fusible woven stabilizer, but not non-woven, as it may come loose from the shirts in time. The pieces will feed better if you place the fusible side next to the feed dogs. The quilt should be machine quilted, because washing may tear or pull ties through because of the weight. Most of this info I found in a book called "You Did What With My T-Shirts?" by Pressing Matters Ink.
My heart goes out to you.

Glenda and Shirley, prayers and deepest heartfelt sympathy to each of you and your family members during this painful time. May God hold each of you and your families in the palm of His hand, and give you strength that only He can give to get you through this time of pain and heal your hearts. Prayers, love and hugs to both of you and your families.Gerbie

Sorry for your loss but my first idea is wait a few months until the grief is not so raw. Then if you tell me about how many T-shirts and pm me your address I will mail you some stabilizer you can iron onto the backs with a print out explaining how to make a t-shirt quilt.

So sorry for your loss - prayers headed your way.
Re: T-shirt quilt - others mentioned fusible interfacing - a must!
Just lost the 27 yr old son of a dear friend (avalanche in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming), so I know well the tragedy when a young man with his whole life ahead is taken far too soon - no words can erase the loss; keep the good memories uppermost if you can.
