Machine sew the front, turn over and hand stitch the back. It just works better for me. However, due to time constraints I machine sewed the binding to the king size family reunion quilt on both sides, but I have to say I wasnt very happy with how it turned out, but I shipped it anyway, no time to re-do it..

I have arthritis in my hands and am unable to sew by hand so I sew the binding onto the front, turn the binding over and SID on the front...Eleanor Burns' method.

I prefer to do by hand. I find it very relaxing when listening to music, books on CD, or watching TV. The only time I machine bind is for kids quilts, as it will be washed and washed, and for my art quilts. Those are hung on the wall. I fuse and sew down those bindings.

I machine sew the front and hand sew the back. Hand sewing the back of the binding is adding a personal touch to the quilt, even though I machine quilt and do some hand quilting on the top. Hand sewing the back is my final personal touch to the quilt, not even the hand sewn label means as much to me as hand sewing the binding. Sounds strange, but that's my reasoning :D

I machine sew it to the front and than flip it over the raw edge and hand sew to the back.

I sew the binding on back, then by machine on front, usually using some kind of decorative stitch. Tried to hand sew binding on back one time, and found I don't have the patience to do it so that it looks good.

I sew the back by hand. I have tried to do it by machine and it always looks sucky. Some of the gals have really nice machine sewn bindings using embroidery stitches, so I will have to revisit this when I get my Bernina.

BTW, I watched the E burns binding method on YouTube. I really like that added feature she puts in - pretty much guarantees a perfect miter - mine have been iffy at best.

Putting the binding on a quilt is my favorite part. I sew it on by machine and then hand sew to the back. Doing the
binding by hand gives me a real "connection" to finishing the quilt.
