Yep its appliqued on, the white background. We choose to use wonder under lite to help hold them down. In order to make it more durable and user friendly we are gonna sew down the collars also.

Neat way to make a shirt quilt. Glad you are doing it together and having a good time too!

Looks as though she is having a good time - making lemonade instead of sucking on lemons these days .... Good for all of you ... that's what friends are for....

Have a second easy-pattern in mind for her, for when you finish this one.... It seems like the shirts are using up only a fraction of a full-sized shirt ... and if "the quilt bug" bites her, she will have plenty enough to make a simple scrappy quilt to keep her involved in the art ..... without having to invest in a lot of new fabric right away .... Maybe you could give it a kick-start...

And she might be more inclined to wrap herself up in a scrappy quilt on a more regular basis rather than taking a chance on wearing out this one that may be a little more fragile and more special ....

    just a thought.
Yep I knew her DH also. He was wonderful happy man full of life until the very end. Never had a bad word to say about anyone, loved everyday. Diabetes took its toll.

We'll be adding buttons but no ties, he wasn't a tie kinda guy unless going to church. She's picked out a second pattern, D9P, now weather or not it gets done....We'll see. I personally see so many different quilts when I see his cloths but getting her to want to sew them up is another story. She's very busy with 2 disabled adult children at home and one 4 yr old grandchild living there as well.

What lovely memories she is going to have, not just with the shirts but the fun time both of you have had, I hope she catches the bug too

That's so cute! I'm glad she found someone who wouldn't let the pattern get her down.
