Let him go find something cheaper and see how satisfied he is with it in the long run! Sounds like a customer you can well do without!!

some people just do not know much about the time and materials needed to make a quilt. That said, a friend of mine who is a single mom, had just lost her job, and was really in need. We were at a church sale, and I wanted to buy something for $2.00, but had left all my cash at home. She saw that I wanted it, and took out $2.00 and bought it for me. I told her that I would pay her back right away. She would not hear of it, and said that it was a gift. I insisted, and she said that I could just make her something, like a quilt. I guess that she saw the shocked look on my face, because she quickly said that perhaps I could make a small one so she could wrap it around her grand child. Now, she had no earthly idea as to the work that goes into making a quilt, but she was so gererous in giving me her last bit of cash, that I did not hesitate in making her a quilt. Yes, $2.00 is a give away price for a quilt, but that kind of friendship is priceless.

You were no way out of line with your pricing on a King Size quilt... I made a T-Shirt quilt for someone and it was queen size. I charged $500 and the women was happy to pay it....
Also doing the binding on a quilt for someone a queen size and and am charging her $40 just to make the binding sew it on by machine and then sew it down by hand and she is happy to pay for it... I'd never take just $200 for a queen size quilt you'd be paying more for material... backing batting and thread...

Stick to your guns. In fact, if he does shop around and come back to you, go up in price. You're still not getting what it's really worth.
"That's my advice and I'm stickin' to it."

Get them to agree on what they are willing to pay you for your time alone to make the quilt then take them shopping and they can pay for fabric, thread, batting, gas. Not cheap.

Expain it to him in his terms, that you would only give him , lets say $50.00 for one of his guns, which he probably paid several hundred for. When he blows his stack, then tell him that is how you feel when he wants one of your gems for nothing.
