From the looks of it I doubt if he has anything to worry about...

So, it's been touched by quilting royalty?

If it was the vertical gears, I'd charge more than that to do it. They're a pain in the bottom! If it was the hook gears or feed gears, it's still a pain. Either way you have to re-time the machine too.

Assume $30 in parts. $80ish for a tuneup? That's about a buck a swear word for the gear change in my experience!

Not a giggle. Just a decent price for a nice machine.

Decals are better than about 90% that I've seen.

Could be. The only machine I have paid to have serviced was a Bernina 930, and the machine was worth a lot more than the servicing fee. Doesn't make much sense to drop $150 on a machine, assuming they did, just to turn around and sell it for $75.

I have just the opposite problem, I am moving and trying to find new homes for my vintage machines, and have not had any interest. I am down to $50 for a treadle, $25 for a cabinet with 2 heads and a chair, and $5 each for 2 portables in cases, all working. I will probably wind up just giving them away. Can't take them with me when I move.

I'm not a fan of that pattern, but if that showed up in my neck of the woods it'd be snatched up....

I sometimes wonder why so many portables have the front slide plate missing? I can see it with a fold-down cabinet. A loose plate will slide off when stowed, but where do they go when the machine always sets flat in a portable base?
