...do not blame the rotary cutter...
It may happen when you are happily cutting fabric...
If it should happen, here are a couple of tips to help you cope!
1) run away from the cutting board. Let the cut get on the carpet or anywhere else. Save the fabric!
2) Call hubby to bring items home with him to fix cut since you have extinguished the first aid kit...it keeps bleeding and on and on...
3) After properly bandaged with a paper napkin and tape, continue on with your project. It is the gift giving season and these projects need to be done.
4)Consider those Klutz Gloves but then go back and forth between them and a yard of new fabric....for a new quilt.
Seriously though! I sliced my finger pretty good on the first knuckle...That has never happened before, maybe a nick or a small cut.
Those blades are sharp and I never knew that one slice could bleed so much and with MRSA or a Staph infection...well, I guess we should be extra careful.
We don't want to take a chance of ruining a pretty fabric!

Hehe. I cut my finger pretty good probably almost a year ago now. Considered going to the ER b/c it would stop bleeding but I had had 2 glasses of wine. Probably why I cut my finger in the first place!! It did stop and healed fast. If I hold up that finger I can see the corner is not quite right where I took a chunk of it off.

ouch! Don't let it get infected, infections can be very nasty, and do not get blood on your work. Milk it up, you can't cook or do dishes or clean the bathroom now for at least a few days!!!

I've done the same thing. The last time I just about sliced off my finger. I usually stand when I cut and I was sitting, that's all it took. I try now to keep my fingers out of the way.LOL Hope you're back to normal quickly.

On the serious side do wrap your hand and keep wrapping if is bleeds though even if it looks like you have a huge mitt on. My SIL sliced off the end of her finger and had to have emergency surgery to reattach two days before her sons wedding.

Yup, been there...done that...only I was slicing ham at the time. Almost passed out on the kitchen floor from all the bleeding. DH doesn't let me play with sharp instruments anymore :oops:

He hasn't thought about the rotary or else I wouldn't be able to cut fabric either! :roll:

Hope you heal up soon....you're right, those gift do have to be made!

Try to be more careful is all I can say. It hurts!!!!!!!!!! I know becasue I have been there and done that.

I have cut my fingers with scissors, sliced them with my rotary cutter, poked them with pins and even sewn them with the sewing machine needle. (It is a wonder that I even still quilt!) It is to the point now that I say my project isn't finished until I have shed blood because of it!!!

Sorry you cut yourself, Kirsten. I hope you heal quickly. It will not be the last time you bleed in the name of quilting, I am sure :lol:

Wasn't really searching for this subject but......with this band-aid on my finger I thought I better check it out. I was using the rotary cutter for the first time tonight and did not realize the sharpness of it. On the subject, is there any easy way to cut these squares? I just bought a 'Get Squared' ruler with the 4 1/2 in center square and the teardrop corners and it works really well but it seems to slip on the fabric and I can't quite get a good position with my hands. Any tips for a newbee?
