Is it possible to remove dates and names from a bought quilt that has been machine embrodered? ( To Susie, Love Aunt Meg. 1987)

I don't know why you would feel you needed to do that. It's part of the quilts history.
But if you wanted to you could. Just use a seam ripper.
I removed a monogram from a backpack many years ago, that I bought from a Lands End outlet store. Took some time, and left some holes but can be done.

You are right. I just thought I would give it to another little girl, and she might be confused.

you could make another label to put over the original. that way, the history is still there and the young girl won't be confused.

    I like this idea!
Removing machine embroidery is possible, however. You need to remove it from the back. Get a very good light, tweezers and a sharp ripper. A magnifying glass is good too.

That is what I was thinking also. I would want the history left on there.

    I like this suggestion :D
If you remove the embroidery, and don't like the way it looks afterwards, you may end up having to do this any way :D:D:D

So that means I need to take it apart, to remove it from the back....
