I buy 2yards. Most times that is enough for me to design with. That being said I also buy for projects. I also buy because I have to have it! Usually 2 to 3 yards. But as ckcowl said buy for the way you quilt. If you think you may begin quilting larger quilts buy 2 to 3 yard pieces. If you want to increase your stash buy 1/2 to 1 yard pieces. Buy blenders that will work with 2 or more focal fabrics. Have fun! Luann

Depending on color and how much is on the bolt, I will buy 3 yds. You always need to consider backings.

3 yards...2 pants or 2 skirts or 1 top and 1 pant or 1 jacket or 1 quilt stash piece... that's why i buy 3 yards at a time...

I usually buy smaller quantities and use lots of different fabrics, just because it's fun. So if I like it I buy 1/2 or 1 yard. For border fabric I buy 3 yards, or for background. I hardly ever use only one background fabric. Then I just pull out everything in the colors for the current project and cull until there's about twice as much as I need, and then cut. When the last piece of a fabric gets used, we hold a small ceremony,

I like to buy 3 yards, or 6 yards. 3 yards does : borders and bit for accent, long sleeve shirt, pants, long skirt. 6 yards does: backing, dress, curtain. If it is a cowprint then I get the whole bolt! Also buy full bolts, of sale fabric, for scrap quilt backs!!
