Default Singer 222 sews S l o w ???

HI

And Happy Easter.

I just got the Singer Featherweight 222, and it is beautiful. But, you have to push really really hard on the foot control, and you have to push the "pedal" all the way to the "floor" for it to go.

I have the 221's and I don't have to push hard on the foot control, and I usually only have it half way down to sew nicely. If I put those to the floor, it goes almost too fast.

The prongs which go into the machine on the 222 are thin and skinny, where the 221 prongs are round, so I can't interchange the 2foot controls.

Any ideas on how to adjust the foot control to make it not so hard to push, and to go without pushing all the way down.

Thanks
KarenSue

I think it's probably hardened grease inside the machine, not a problem with the foot pedal. Have you taken a look at the inside yet?

Hate to say this, but the insides of this machine look like it has Never been used. Everything, even gear area is so clean, and we went thru the manual step by step to make sure we oiled and lubricated all necessary parts.

I'm thinking that this machine was never used and it's just real stiff.

Hubby did everything he knows to adjust the foot pedal, but we plan on just taking it to the local dealer who works on featherweights also to see what he says.
And if we have to the lady in Canada who we bought it from, said she would send up a new plug (round not straight) so we can use another foot pedal. But we really would like to keep it original.

Will go take photo of it now.

Here are some photos (I am not that good in taking photos though)
But you can see where the bed is a free arm on this model, and the "embroidery hoop" is included so you can darn (switch on right for sewing and darning) when darning the feed dogs lower. And the stitch plate is nice and long, and with numbers. And lastly, this machine has the red "S".
