Unless you have a super duper retirement package pension, don't EVEN consider moving here for retirement. It's just way too expensive living in Hawaii. Home ownership or even renting is expensive, vacations have got to be planned as you cannot just drive somewhere and be in another State so you need to always "fly" to get anywhere, food/gas and daily living expenses are high (even with people thinking that they don't need to pay for winter heating costs or winter clothes). And you will get tons of friends or family who suddenly are your best friend because you live in Hawaii and they think they have an automatic free HOTEL stay at your house. I always tell people, don't MOVE here, just come for a visit. There have been lots of people who move here and within a few months time, are moving back to where they came from originally. They get what we Islanders call, "Island Fever." They feel landlocked. I just want to visit the East Coast...not live there. I do wish to live in Oregon, though. I'm tired of living in Hawaii, don't like the daily heat, no rain (I live where it doesn't rain very much), the expensive prices, would like to see the change in seasons, and be closer to the DGD. LOL

Leideine, it sounds like you have a very interesting family history. I just loved hearing about the "love marriage". Odd as it may sound, my mother tried to get me into an arranged marriage when I was 16. I look one look at the guy -- he was dressed in a loud flowered shirt and plaid pants -- and told her she was out of her mind. And don't listen to Brenda about the East Coast. She's a Texas girl. The East Coast is fabulous.

Julie - we want pix!!!!

Dabbler and Mary, I am so jealous about your outdoor wind chimes. My husband hates them with a passion. One of our neighbors had a set hanging outdoors and he kept complaining and complaining about them to me. I liked them. Then one day they were no longer there. I never asked him what happened. Sometimes you just don't want to know. Louise, if you lived next door with those lovely pipe chimes I think they would be gone if DH lived nearby.

Onalee, what an adorable package you put together! Love those elephants! (Actually my favorite animal. I fibbed about monkeys)

Gzusluvs, what a nice package you sent Mary! Butterflies and Dragonflies! So summery!

OK. Today -- and today only -- East Coast is not so great. BUCKETS of rain ... and my roof is now leaking. Arghhhhh.
