See my earlier post, lol. My husband won an iPad in August, and my laptop died in September. I've been using his iPad as a very poor substitute and it has convinced me that I am much happier with a laptop.

If you can afford it don't justify it! or you will go without a lot of fun stuff. I have one and it's always with me. And I use my Kindle Fire just as much. I couldn't choose so I bought both.

1- I can't imagine not having one anymore.
2- you can have all your quilting magazines in a reader program--I use the Kindle ap.
3- download every free pattern you can find and read in Kindle ap as above.
4- read regular books and such... I have read 2this week.
5- watch tutorials right at your sewing machine-- starting and stopping as many times as you like.
6- email...
7- camera...
8- FaceTime (it's a videophone ap)
9- it's fun
10- stream movies ( Netflix)

and that's just off the top of my head!

i don't go anywhere without it.

There is a printing ap, but you have to have the right printer.

Check out certified Apple refurbished products directly from Apple. They have full 1 year warranty and essentially are new. Apple seems to cut prices on existing iPads as soon as the company introduces a new generation. As soon as the ipad mini and gen 4 ipad were announced a couple of weeks ago, the 3rd generation ipad, which just came out earlier this year, dropped in price. I ordered and have received a 16 gig, wifi model for $379. I had resisted because I bought a Toshiba Thrive (also got a good refurbished price) this past spring. I enjoyed using it and had access to some good apps and games.

I really like the ipad and am glad I got it. We have a Kindle Fire at our house, also, that is for our grandson. It is great for reading books and playing game apps, but the screen is too small for me when browsing the web.

I have watched Craftsy videos on both android and ipad .. In my opinion, the ipad does a better job. I have not tried viewing them on the Kindle Fire .. That will be my next experiment. In fact, I had a new Kindle Fire HD with the larger screen on order, but I canceled it when I ordered the ipad. From reading the Fire HD reviews, it might be a good option for web browsing, reading, and watching videos.

I hope you find what will work best for you.

I love, love, love my iPad. I am lying in bed reading the Board. At night, I read e-books from my public library. During the day, my iPad is with me in my sewing room. I am either listening to audio books or watching quilting videos as I sew. I have lots of songs on my iPad; but I am so busy using it for other things that I seldom listen to the music. Oh, there are great quilting apps. I also check the weather, read my e-mail, etc. on my iPad. Now, I cannot imagine life without an iPad.

It updates all the newest tutorials from Jenny. I have games that I like to play. I can use it as my alarm clock, can send and receive emails, I can take picture of what is on the screen to save, I can upload store coupons and have the cashier scan it. There are lots more things it can do but I am still learning.
Me, too! I love my iPad. There is a free app that will allow you to print to a wireless HP printer. Since I have one, I use the printing feature all the time.

Lots of Black Friday ads are out already online (http://www.blackfriday.com) so you can check them out. Walmart will have the iPad 2 on sale for $399 and you'll get also receive a $75 gift card as well.
From what I looked up it is an in-store promotion only. You won't be able to order online. I don't know about anyone else but I am not brave enough to fight the big crowds for these deals. If I can't order online I guess I just won't get it. I am like a lot of you I am intrested in this thread as I too want an IPad or something equal to.

Especially since Walmart is opening at 8 pm on Thanksgiving!!! What the heck?!??! I absolutely refuse to shop THAT early. I guess it just shows what's more important - shopping over family. Very sad commentary about our society.

Thanks Stitchnripper for your good advice. I googled, which sent me to the ..applestore.com...which has many printers that are compatible with the iPad. Some need apps. They say the printers have to be "air print" compatible. I think I will buy the Epson Expression Home XP-400 all in one printer, it is the smallest one and costs $100.00. Actually I will probably only print quit patterns on it. I have had 2 Kindle Fires and you cannot print off them.Plus my first one started acting wacky after about 6 months, the sent me a new one, free of charge. Now about 6 months later this new Ki.dle is acting very strange and it is terribly frustrating! So on to the iPad! This Board is great.
