About 5 years ago my wife and I had a booth in an antique mall. We shut it down due to time constraints, just as well, we got out just before the economy tanked.
People do buy it. You would be amazed at what a distressed coat of paint will do for the price on something. My wife is more into country primitives than shabby chic thankfully.

It is a certain type of people yes. I like chalk paint (I make my own, $30 a quart is stupid) but I don't do the distressing part.

I don't get primitives at all. I never have and they are huge around here. It all looks dark and dirty to me.

Cool find-whatever it is. It doesn't look like any sort of sewing machine I've ever seen but then I don't get out much.
I think I see a cloth guide on it and the box does say sewing. I was under the impression that sewing machines were still in their infancy and were kind of on the clunky side around 1862. Maybe Glenn would be interested for his Civil War stuff.

How do you suppose people arrive at their asking prices?

Really, Shabby Chic?? How about we rub some whitish paint all over everything.
Horrendous! Can't believe they say proudly that it's newly refurbished. I wouldn't even want to attempt to "strip" that as it looks like some sort of pickle wash. Already ruined so might as well paint it brown....even that would be an improvement!
