Default OBW Question

I finally found the fabric I want to use in a one block wonder. I have read the book and am ready to begin cutting, but I can't determine if I should make hexagons or octagons. I have sufficient fabric for either.

For those of you who have made the fabulous OBWs I have seen on the board -- how did you decide which to make? Any advice on which to use? Many thanks for your help!

The advantage of doing the OBW Octagon is you can square the blocks to sew them together. The hexagon OBW need to be assembled in half hexagon blocks and the rows sewn on the diagonal.

I have done a couple and did the hexagons on all! I think it is easier than adding the square on the octagon to make blocks. the half hexagons go together really easily in a row. But which ever look you like best is the one you should go for!

I really prefer the hexagons. Those little squares you need to fill in the octagon shapes drive me nuts!

I have made three or four and one had both on it. It is a matter of preference. If you are want a OBW then I would think the hexagons would be better. I have never done them that way preferring different settings. Either way, they are amazing and go together quickly.

Same size hexagons (the six-sided shape) will fit together without any "filler" shapes. Octoagons (eight-sides) won't.

Cutebuns did a great tutorial on hexagon OBW. Made it easy. I lined up my points with glue when sewing the strips so they match. You may want to look through this.

I have done a few of the hexagon ones, still can't wrap my head around the octagon instructions but the hexagons are easy, once you get them cut! Good luck, let us see the pics!
