Default Quilting Ideas

I am a long time lurker and I do learn a lot from all of the posts here. I have many, many quilt tops completed that just need quilting. I love to use my embroidery machine to create blocks and also like to do machine applique and several of my quilt tops are Lunch Box Quilts. I also own a Baby Lock Crown Jewel quilting setup which I fear intensely. I have completed some table runners and fabrics for bags without incident but just fear a quilt top. The Crown Jewel is with the Quilters Creative Touch so stitching is easy. or should be but my fear of messing up gets in the way. My issue is that I just can't figure out how to quilt these tops with all the applique and embroidery. I don't want to quilt over the appliques and the embroideries. My friend has a Pro-stitcher and can crop out all of those things but it is so much effort. Is it okay to just do an edge to edge panto over everything? Would that look terrible? How do others quilt this type of quilt? Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions/encouragement or help

I have done several quilts with hand embroidery in fun designs. I use either an invisible thread or a thread the same as the background muslin and go along the edge of the embroidery. I used invisible on those earlier large stitches that needed to be "tied" down. It's a great way to make the embroidery pop.

I did a wall hanging a couple of years ago with owls. I stitched around them just to make them stand out.

Very cute. Did you do that with a long arm or FMQ on your sewing machine. I love the owls and the fact that you did not quilt over them. Helps with my decision making. I am just not talented at the art of FMQ no matter what technique I use.

Invisible thread is not something I had considered. I will use that on these very busy quilts as I do not want the quilting to distract from all the fun embroideries. Thanks for the response!

No one is able to enjoy your tops sitting on a shelf so quilt some up with invisible thread!

I just used my regular machine and went around them slowly using the foot as a guide. They are far from perfect, but I just made it for myself.

Tartan has a good point. I like to take my quilts to work and hang them on my office walls. Kids seem to be fascinated
by them, especially the holiday quilts. I don't think they care if the quilting is perfect or not.

I always use crosshatching for filling in the background. You don't stitch over any applique.
