Default Question to those who have made Farmer's Wife Sampler or similar samplers

I've finished my blocks and ready to add sashing and cornerstones.
I think I will have to fudge it a little. No way to trim the block
because I will lose my points. They are anywhere between 6" and 6.5".
I was planning on one inch finished sashing.
Should I cut my sashing individually to make all the blocks
    finish at 8" square?
I will be setting it on point. Not sure if this makes any
difference or not. Thanks for your help.

did you hand or machine piece the blocks? I have one of the books, but haven't started it yet. The book says they should be 6 1/2 unfinished....and 6 inches finished. And then she offset them but on point..... Did you print templates from the CD? I am just wondering why you have such a disparity....

If you sash each block, won't your sashing then come close to 4" or am I thinking wrong?

It's one the quilt bucket list though, so I am interested in the responses!

Same thing happened to me. I never could figure it out. I sashed using different widths of sashing and it came out okay. Not being a math person, I tried to add up a few blocks to see if it was in the math of downsizing from a 12 inch to a 6 inch block. Maybe it has something to do with those tiny tiny flippy corners.

I've done both paper-piece and regular machine piecing. I noticed
the more pieces it had the more the block would shrink. Doesn't
matter which method of piecing. I used Aurifil 50 wt. so I don't think
    it's my thread.

If more pieces results in more shrinkage, you probably need to adjust your seam allowance.

Can't adjust the seam allowance on paper-piecing. My printed patterns were
exactly 6.5" square...but after sewing some turned out smaller. Weird.

I've made both the FWS and PC.
The PP block patterns were accurate.

The only discrepancy was IF I didn't make sure it printed out to 100% and it got re-sized.

After making a couple blocks at the wrong size, and needing to remake them, I quickly learned to make sure the rest were printed to the correct size before I started PPing each.

I think it's also possible that paper pieced blocks can shrink a little during pressing, especially with steam. That might depend on the kind of paper used - just a theory.

I think you're right. I used Carol Doak's paper. Maybe vellum has less shrinkage but
more difficult to remove IMHO. I don't have a steam iron but maybe the humidity
in the air? We do have a big industrial dehumidifier in the basement but who knows.
I know my printed papers were 100%. I had to re-adjust my print resolution several
times to get it right then used the same resolution for each and every pattern. Maybe
I'll have to rethink my paper for next time.
