I am wanting to use a pinwheel, as my center, of a square in a square or economy, block that ends up 8.5 before setting with other blocks. What size do I cut my pieces for pinwheels and what size are my corners cut? My brain is on pause today and I do love math but not happening today. Thanks girls (or any guys that's here)!

There are 260 blocks to look through here. Since I'm not completely clear on what block you want, have a look and find yours. It should be here! https://www.generations-quilt-patter...-patterns.html

I'm thinking that perhaps you are wanting the pinwheel to be unfinished 4.5" and the other sizes to cut to finish at 8" There are instructions for an economy block that size at https://www.leilagardunia.com/blog/e...block-tutorial That just shows the economy block, but the center is 4.5" unfinished. So I went and found this page that give the size for the center pinwheel center to finish at different sizes, included 4" finished at https://www.generations-quilt-patter...ilt-block.html

I was wondering what, if any, the difference between an economy block and square in a square block was. Seems like many consider them to be interchangeable but Quilters Cache seems to show a difference, with the Economy actually being a square in a square in a square as seen at https://www.quilterscache.com/E/EconomyBlock.html and the other just the square in a square as seen at https://www.quilterscache.com/S/Squa...uareBlock.html
Looks like dimensions can be found for either, shown in above responses.

Workbench, thank you for all you did. I was mistaken when I thought the two blocks were the same. I Just needed the square (pinwheel) in a square, but I needed to know what size to cut each piece.
I was given a panel with 1 large panel and 6 smaller squares to make for a foster child's quilt. I have no idea yet how to incorporate 6 smaller sq panels, with the larger one, but I will have to add the pinwheel blocks because I need the whole quilt 52 x 72. The smaller panel squares will be 8.5 inch too. The large panel I will make to fit inside the middle, by adding borders, if I need to. Larger panel measures 23 x 26 now. Any ideas for layouts are appreciated.
