yes i did, a friend passed away..he was an Ohio state fan..they had a quilt with OS design, draped over the casket, instead of a large spray of flowers...that was before i started quilting, and i thought it was a beautiful way to honor the man.

I loved reading all the posts, have never heard of this before. Love the idea.
I made a quilt for my sister when she had surgery. Two years later I flew out for her last days, I had planned on taking it home with me. I met her neighbor that had taken the summer off work to spend time with my sister, after my sister passed I gave her friend the quilt, she loved it.
Thank you for starting this topic.

It's quite popular here. Some people give lap quilts and throws with sayings instead of flowers, and the family keeps them. My mother passed away 11 years ago, and the trend was just starting then around here.

Most florists around here have them for sale. It's popular in my area.

What an AWESOME and THOUGHTFUL gift. I love that idea instead of flowers. The flowers do get thrown away after they wilt. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

What a beautiful tradition.

Wouldn't it be nice to make a quilt for each of your children and ask they be given after the funeral.
