I have a TON of fabric purchased some time ago for sewing (clothing mostly) Some of it is truly beautiful and would make lovely quilts. BUT, being a newbie to quilting, I did not know if it is wise to use in quilts. Just trying to use practical way to use this material. Suggestions anyone????

I have used it in quilts, but I do prefer the 100% cotton. Just my preference.

I use them.. they hold up really well in baby quilts with all the washings, draggin and tuggins..

I use them with no problem.

In the olden days they didn't have polyester so there were no blends, everything was cotton. Well, now everything isn't cotton, so I use what I have. My mom made a great quilt out of polyester knit, my son literally loved it to a shabby death.

I used to make lots of quilts out of poly/cotton when quilt fabrics were not as abundant as now. They are all still being used. They wash really well, the colors stay/do not fade as much as cottons. If you are going to mix poly /cotton with 100 percent cotton fabrics - preshrink the cottons, or you will have sections that crinkle/shrink and some that do not.

polyester holds up well and is good for (utility) quilts...quilts that will be dragged around, tossed in the wash, tossed in the dryer. the fabric is not as ...soft with time--(like cotton gets)-- it stays like it is, ...ya know...yukky ole poly... you can if you want use it. you know our ancestors quilted what ever scrap of fabric they could get their hands on into their beautiful quilts. good for kids quilts, car quilts, picnic/beach quilts.

we use it for our childrens hospice quilts, the DHS kids quilts and the YWCA quilts. Reason, they wash and wear so well!

For My quilts it is all cotton.

however I do use poly/cotton for placemats, towel toppers, holiday decor, etc....

Sure, you can use it. 1) Prewash all fabrics for the quilt and 2)don't expect to do as much stretching and easing to fit if the block is off. With poly/cotton, what you see is what you get. It sews up nicely and wears well.
