I have been quilting long enough that I didn't see that comin' and it hit me like WHAM!
I smoothed them out by hand on the ironing board, and I think they'll be ok once we start smoothing onto the batting... but my daughter was trying to do a quilt up for one of her BFFs whose b-day party is this coming Friday. Now I am not sure if there's a better method to doing the HSTs?
I have done some complicated stuff before, I cannot believe pinwheels will be my demise!

You could also take two squares right sides together, draw a line down the middle point to point, Sew 1/4" on each side of the line, cut on the line and square up the blocks method. This method doesn't have bias edges. HTH

I have the same dilemna. . . I have a rainbow of colors so what I decided to do is tones - the current one has 24 gree/blue/brown pinwheels and I am going to make it a 'boys' quilt. I plan on donating mine to a kids hospital. This one would be more teenage boy- I have some juvenile prints to use for younger boys , pinks/res and yellow for the girls. That was my solution. Will post them as I get them done. I have a total of 50 pinwheels - but needed a break. Anyone else have an ideas??

I found a guide on about.com for piwheels: 3 7/8" squares make 6" blocks and 5 7/8" makes 10 inch blocks - hope that helps :-D
