We are going to see our nephews in North Carolina... One is at Camp Laguine (Marines) and one is in the North shore in the Coast Guard...
Any suggestions of what we should be sure to see. We are stopping at Ashville to tour the Builtmore Mansion... can't wait.
Thank you for any suggestions you might send.

The Biltmore Mansion is awesome. We toured all day and then decided to stay over in Ashville that night and went out to the estate the next day as well. This is a wonderful piece of history and so much to see. Enjoy.

I'm kinda centrally located in NC, so I don't have any suggestions. But have a great time! Be sure to stop by the beach and just sit for awhile with a book. It's probably not warm enough to swim yet, but you can still get the waves and the birds and stuff.

Oh, and watch out: the sea birds will eat Doritos. Snap 'em right outta your hand. Also, roast turkey lunchmeat...that's kinda weird and cannibalistic to me, but whatever...

In the west is also Grandfather Mountain, fun to go see.
My son lives in the outer banks, chef at Mulligans. See the Wright Brothers Memorial, There is a great museum in Elizabeth City just west of the Outer Banks. Museum of The Albemarle.

Have a wonderful time, and enjoy the state of NC it is very pretty this time of year.

When are you leaving for NC.? Are you going to the Biltmore Estates first or what?

Watch out for the sea birds - ALL of them are extremely aggressive. There is/was a drive-in restaurant in Duck and when the servers would be carrying the tray across the parking lot, the birds will com right down and take things off the trays. Same goes if you are sitting outside at a picnic table or anything. They will come right up to you and take the food - even right out of your hand!!!! And their bite will break the skin if you get hit.

It's a beautiful trip. I drove my mother down to Myrtle Beach from Illinois and we both enjoyed the trip so much. There is a lot to see along the way in other states also. Have fun!
