Default Making My Darling Wife a M.U.T.

You all don't know me but you know my DW jljack and I'm making this for her Annibirthsary Present! Janice and I were married the day after her birthday so this is a combination Anniversary/Birthday present. I asked her what she wanted and this is it, a milti-use treadle!! She had already named it FrankenTreadle!!

Janice had the treadle base already.

I picked up a coffee table from GoodWill for $6.00 that had an oak veneer top (very thin veneer) over a pressed wood core.

Janice wanted the table top a little off center so there would be more working space to the left of the head.

After determining the location of the top (BTW the top is 54 inches by 24 inches) I screwed the top to the base so I could figure out where the drive belt would come thru the top. After I made sure everything was level and plumb I used a 24 inch level and put the beveled edge of the level into the grove on one side of the drive wheel, brought the edge of the level up to the bottom of the table top and once the level was plumb I made a mark. This mark will tell me where the outside edge of the drive wheel is in relationship to the table top. Do this on both sides of the drive wheel.

I've been watching the "franken treadle" with interest. Thanks for posting the details on how you are doing this.

Janice, your husband is wonderful! Such a very nice Anniversary and Birthday gift!!

John, thank your for sharing this information with us. I have been watching with interests since you were clever to pick up a cheap table top to convert into treadle top. I also love the idea of the generic hole and then the special tailored machine head boards. Looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Congrats to both of you on your Anniversary!
