I am from Brunswick, an hour away. I know there are the name brand, Hancock, Joanns. I think there should be some neat little shops somewhere in Savannah. Perhaps the phone book!

I do know that in Brunswick we have a shop that is going to go out of business the end of July and there is buy 1 yard get one free. That is called Grandma's Attic and then on St Simons Island there is a shop called Stepping Stones. That shop is nice.

St Simons will be an hour away as well. I think Patrice lives around Savannah somewhere maybe she can advise you as to where some cute shops would be.

I"ve been into both those shops a few years ago. Sad that one is going out of business, but would LOVE to get in on the buy one get one deal.
I'm sure there are some quilt shops in Savannah. Don't see why there shouldn't be. Tons of old stores there.

PM me Terri and maybe we can work something out.
I own the UPS Store so shipping would be easy.

Saint Simons would be about 2 hours from Savannah ... give or take ... and depending on traffic on 95.

There are 2 "official" quilt shops in savannah. one is called Colonial Quilts. the other is Let's Sew. I googled "quilt shops in savannah" and there they were. :-)

    Colonial Quilts - www.colonialquilts.us
    11710 Largo Dr # A, Savannah - (912) 925-0055
    Directions and more »

    Let's Sew - www.letssewquiltshop.com
    361 Commercial Dr # A, Savannah - (912) 354-5200

i just stumbled across another listing. Garden City is near Savannah:
    Sew Much More Web Site
Address: 4831 Augusta Rd, Garden City, GA 31408
    Phone: (912) 966-5626
    Email: [email protected]

i have never been to either one. i must confess to having very little interest in "the shops". beyond atmosphere, they don't offer anything i can't get elsewhere for free or at much lower prices. since both shops are out of my way on a typical trip to savannah, i've not yet bothered to look for them.

of course, YOU would certainly be worth the trip, so i'd be tickled pink to drive up and wander through both of them with you while you're here. :P :P :P

You'll be near Charleston. At the Market there, the old basket weavers and quilting women would sit and chat and work. I used to love going there, hearing stories passed down in Gullah, a slave language which is almost hypnotic to listen to. I've been away for years, but I'm sure there must be some quilt shops around there.

There were spice blenders, too, that would come up with interesting names for their spicy blends, like "burns the hair off your butt, but real tasty". I also remember fondly a disabled man who would make the most beautiful boxes and such out of driftwood.

And if you love huge old trees, the Angel Oak is on John's Island. Hurricane Hugo hurt it some, but it was around before Columbus left Spain. It is supposed to be 1500 years old, with huge branches meandering around, covered in moss, like the ancient soul it is.

Patrice~ thanks for the info. We will be leaving for the beach on Monday I want to spend as much time at the ocean as I can. I did want to take a drive in the middle of the week to Savannah. We haven't made any difinite plans . All I know is that I always try to find a quilt shop and hopefully try to get to Paula Deen's restrurant. and get Bebe a cookbook!
