Hi,

I was recently diagnosed w/fibromyalgia. My dr. tested the 18 tender points and out of 18 I had 11 so she put me on Cymbalta. This was a couple of months ago and I've been feeling better but woke up today hurting worse than I have in a long time. My lower back and knees are extremely sore and even picking up a small binder on my desk hurt my arm. I ate a lot of chocolate yesterday and was wondering if choc aggrivates fibro? Any other foods I should be aware of???

My daughter (33 years old) has had fibro for many years. She's never mentioned a food connection. But, she does get "flares" like you are describing. Sometimes for her it's caused by a change in weather, STRESS, or too much physical activity the day before. She takes hot baths, and rests a bit more than usual until it passes. She's also been on Cymbalta with good results. I know there are many on this board who have this problem and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses. Good luck, and I hope you soon feel better.

Thanks Lynn. I've hurt for years but never had an answer as to why. It was colder last night and today and I have been under a lot of stress plus I went home and did loads of wet towels (water line issues over the weekend) so perhaps that's it...at least I hope so...I'd hate to have to up my Cymbalta intake so I wouldn't have to give up chocolate...haha.

I haven't noticed that chocolate has inflamed my fibro...of course I also WILL NOT stop eating it. Small quantities...not a mega dose.

I haven't had chocolate bother me, I do avoid artificial sweeteners as they do tend to aggravate mine... an excessive amount of caffeine can also.

Weather changes (extreme hot or cold), stress and changes in humidity can get mine going :D:D:D

Actually I just read a study where people ate 4 squares of dark chocolate,(85%+cocao). This was done daily for 6 weeks. The people seemed to have lasting pain relief for some time after they stopped eating the dark chocolate daily. This was a double blind study. For some reason the additional 250 calories didn't cause a weight gain...maybe because they felt better and were more active!
