I too, have made several of these, and it does not call for batting. I also used for the main fabric, a panel that is across. It us either going to be bigger or smaller than the main fabric requirements, but it will just change your border width. I also flipped the ends the opposite way so that the panel would not be chopped off at an awkward place, so the flipped side goes to the back, and hand stitched the ends down so that the sewing line would not show through on the front side.

I was wondering if anyone else flipped them the other way, I like that much better personally. I've done both ways and everyone who has seen them prefers it with the center fabric out to point. I did not bat them either. Here's the first one i made in batik for my dining room table

Very nice table runner. Thank you for sharing directions. As an FYI, I can't do it in 10 minutes either.

I am going to my neighbors tonite, we are going to make 10 minute table runners. I hope I can make it in 20, because I need 4 by Friday for gifts!

I have a question about the batting. Is that the correct width? Wouldn't it be too wide ?

Hi oma66, just looking at your runner. It's so unique and very nice. Your neighbors will love it. Where did you find the pattern? Everyone finds so many pretty things to make.
Thanks for the pics.

you are nearly done.

Next time I am going to cut the center just 9 inches so that I have more border showing. You can create yours any size you want. I am making 8 for my neighbors for Christmas and will do just simple quilting. They will all be in Christmas fabrics.

after sewing the ends, a point is formed. turn and press.

This is the sample so I have not quilted it yet. You can do all kinds of things with this, like adding piping, rick-rack in the side seams, patch work in the middle, etc.

Where did you find the original pattern from? Was it in a book of Ten Minute Blocks? These are so pretty and quick from what your saying.
Great job everyone.

The name is 10 minute table runner, but it took me 35 min. cutting, sewing, pressing, and putting in the batting. Some of you more seasoned quilters/sewer can probably do it in 10 minutes.

1 pc. fabric wof X 18 inches
1 pc. fabric wof x 12 inches
batting 18x45

see the photos below.

I've made quite a bit of them as Christmas presents. Gave some away early so that the recipients could use them this holiday season. They all were so well received. I received the pattern from my lqs and my dealer. I didn't do one though until I saw your tut as I am a visual learner. I varied the widths based on my center panel and even added an inner border as I saw fit. I used a thin lining from pelon.

Thank you - will post my pics soon.

Welcome MarciaN,
Yes add the batting or flannel inside the tube, here is where you get the pattern!! ( although the pattern I got doesn't mention any batting, 1 member on the board said she used flannel).
google "ten minute table runner" and it comes up.
There are several that come up, I decided on the one from UtahState, by Larue Bunnell Clark.
Have fun on the board, it's fun here.:D

Hi everyone, I am brand new to the forum. I really like this tablerunner tut, even I, as challenged as I am, can make it! Wondering tho, if you wanted to add batting, did you just slip that in the tube after sewing together? Thanks again for the tutorial. I made some placemats to match by cutting the tube in half.

how the points are done.Is there a video on line?

The points are made by folding the corners at each end into triangles that meet, but don't overlap. Sew them down to keep them in position. Hope that helps.

I used iron on 'firm' pellon on the back side of one of the fabrics. That gave the table runner 'body', and allowed me to use the tube method, too. You could probably do the same thing with iron on batting, or you could sew batting on the back of one of the fabrics and then make the tube.

Thank you for sharing.. great gift idea...

The pattern I use is 9" wide center fabric and 18" wide border fabric but the same instructions. Batting or not up to you.

annt59 12-30-2011 12:10 AM

I use 12"WOF for center and 24" WOF border. It comes to 17 1/2 " wide and 41" inches long. Thiis my favorite size.
