This quilt took me about 24 hours! I am still new to quilting or maybe I was doing something wrong! It just took me a looong time! Cutting the blocks may have taken me 4 hours! 😂

Thank you so much for your directions, I have always wanted to make one but was too afraid to try it. I made it slightly smaller starting with 6 1/2 " squares ( as my favorite ruler is that wide) and in 3 colors. Not sure what I am doing for a border yet.

To make HST take the finished size you want and add 7/8"; example if you want a 9.5" finished HST (if you are using precuts for the rest of the quilt that are 10"), then add 7/8" to 9 & 1/2" = 10 & 3/8" square. To make things easy you could just cut your strips 10.5 X WOF, subcut to 10.5 X 10.5, draw a diagonal line on back of one piece, place two squares right sides together, sew 1/4" away from center diagonal line on both sides, cut apart, and square them up to 10". That makes a humongous Carpenter's Star but hey, why spend all your time cutting when you want to sew.

Thanks so much! I was actually thinking about doing a giant one to use as a backing for my next quilt, and your chart will come in handy!

The Carpenter Star pattern is such a simple block but makes a big impact when done - I have baby blankets as well as smaller blocks and created larger quilts. The baby quilts turn out so pretty. The beauty of it you can make the blocks any size you like - just be consistent.Like you stated it works up fast - very fast
