Here's my version. I'm very pleased with it. It took about eleven to twelve hours total. I used the Magic Eight method for making eight HSTs at a time. I made two Magic Eights of each color combination. I'm sure that helped save time. I used yardage instead of charm squares and trimmed the HSTs to five inches unfinished. Stitchinbee's directions were very helpful.
I have a friend who's having twin grandkids next year and I think I'll make this again. I may use just one color for the inner star and a different one for the outer star, switching colors for the second quilt. Tate |

If you want a 12 1/2 inch block, make all of your squares or HST 2"
Make your HST units "finish" at 1-1/2 inch. If you use the cut the squares on the diagonal method - cut the squares 2-3/8 (or 2-1/2 inches and trim the sewn units - my preferred way to do things) 6 x 1.5 = 12 |
I love pictures to learn, i am a visual learner so appreciate the time you took to post-thank you. Tate your version is very nice.

I used 6 - 1/2" blocks and ended up with the star 48" square before any borders. That would work great to cover the center of a double bed. I'd suggest measuring the top of your bed and divide by 8 to get an approximate block size.
