I have also put hot, strong coffee in a spray bottle and sprayed the fabric. It give a different look, and can be as much or little as you want! Made wonderful looking antique doll dresses for a craft project.

It makes a nice look, never would have thought of coffee, but then I forget about those long ago coffee stains when I still drank coffee. Duh. me Duh, not you. Great idea.

I really think it was the heat (I used hot coffee) I think it removed any treatment the fabric may have had in it.

I tried cold coffee a while back with different fabric and it didn't do as well, turned out blotchy. Maybe it was the fabric, but I'm thinking it was the heat as well.

BTW - I rinsed it afterwards, until the water was clear. Haven't used soap, but I think it won't fade much further.

all the stuff I ever did has out lasted anything ever done with tea.
I did things that would have repeated washings.
I usually put a bottle of instant in washer on hot water and then add whatever. make sure to aggitate before adding fabric.
small bottle small load lg bottle lg load.
I used generic whatever was cheapest.
