I do a lot of sewing as well so I use a lot of elastic and I have rolls in several sizes, but I also get it wholesale so it is a lot cheaper than going to the fabric store, I probably pay what she spent on the 9 yds, for the whole roll, it is quiet inexpensive when you can get it that way, and it sure comes in handy when inspiration hits and I need stuff done, I have all the things like that to work, I don't need to worry about little things, the ladies at the fabric store I am sure wonder, I buy fabric and usually nothing else.

I was thinking that it would be great for the girls especially, it is just so hard to find the time right now to dive in.

Well, if you can't get some done for Christmas, there is always their birthdays, it would still make a nice present for that. And I think that people of all ages appreciate something made especially for them, which you can do, just by your choice of fabric.
I will be interested to see who might tackle making one after Christmas, when some of the pressure is off.

A man box - hmm, what about faux leather fabric to cover it?

Thanks Lesley....I'm not sure what I would use to make a box for him. I'll have to figure out what he would be putting in it I guess. :roll: The leather would be cool though!

Don't forget you could make it without the gussets, so that it didn't fall open when you took the lid off. Instead, each side would need to be sewn together. You could do this after each lining piece is glued to the box outer, and of course, the elastic and pockets can be eliminated too. Is he a cufflinks, hankies and small change type of DH? you could make a miniature hex tray to put inside for the small change. (box lid and brim sides, like a miniature lid, but pad the inside, not the outside with batting).
