This is a PDF of fabric made from the toss away can in my sewing room. Bits and pieces too small and trimmings from blocks I sized up for a quilt. Happy stitching everyone.

Thank you! I can think of a lot of ways to use this "fabric" :D:D:D

angieh1964 08-11-2010 01:25 PM

kellen46 08-11-2010 03:03 PM

Matilda 08-12-2010 08:19 AM

irma tapia 08-13-2010 03:55 PM

How clever!!!!!! I printed it so I'll have it when I have enough pieces.

zz-pd 08-13-2010 04:59 PM

Thank you, and God bless.

Gerbie 08-13-2010 07:38 PM

That looks like it is truly your own design and should be able to be displayed anywhere without permission from anyone lol. I'm being tacky, as I just read about all the rules on the copy right stuff on another thread. Not meant to be tacky to you, I think your idea is really neat and I like the quilt and bags you made great idea. Looks good!! Gerbie

Thank you and I am aware of Copy write law. My own work from start to finish, and I took the photo's my self. I have seen some work similar from others but they were not using scraps from the garbage nor were they using serger drippings as embellishment. Having said this if any one wants to re-post or share in any way please feel free to do so.

julybaby8 08-14-2010 10:39 AM

This looks like a fun project.

Rosanna1951 08-19-2010 10:21 AM

All I can say is WOW, you are so creative. You have an eye for good endings. I do Love the purse. I will try this too I think. Thanks for the idea. Wonderful, Rosanna1951

Janie Q 08-19-2010 10:49 AM

Wow! That is so cool and looks like sooo much fun. Thanks for sharing your creative idea. You have inspired me to go dig those scraps (I just threw away)out of my wastebasket!

CarrieAnne 08-21-2010 06:26 AM

Wow, very nice!

Rosyhf 08-21-2010 06:38 AM

How very creative. This makes a very strong fabric and can be used for even doggie mats or doggie quilts lol. Place mats come to mind, I love the whole idea as I also do fusing and have never thought of doing the crumbs this way.

SherriB 08-22-2010 05:14 PM

Wow! Another awesome use for scraps and crumbs!

Ditter43 08-23-2010 12:47 PM

I had so many little pieces left from my string quilt, I collected them as I went and now have a good supply of various colors. I am going to make some kind of art project with them, just haven't figured out what yet!! Thanks for the good ideas!

monetgardening 08-25-2010 06:36 AM

WOW, this is beautiful work and so fun. What a wonderful idea and so frugal. Thank you for sharing this.

So, I read your post and cleaned out my trash can!! I created 25 blocks and will sash them. I am donating it to our guild's service project of "just for You" quilts that go to our children's hospitals in Atlanta. I will get every usable scrap into a quilt from now on!!

Hi Irma,
My blocks are 71/2 inches cut. They are just laying on that piece of blue fabric to see if I liked it. I will make the sashing 2 1/2 inches, cut. Glad you liked it!

irma tapia 08-25-2010 06:56 PM

Hi Jeannie,
Thanks for the info. I also make quilts for kids that are in the hospitals, what a joy it is. I am going to try making this type of quilt as soon as I can. Thanks for the idea!

Good for you Jeannie, quilt looks lovely and I know will go to good use. Congratulations Way to Go gal! Just think folks how many children and older folks at Hosp. and Nursing Homes or whatever could use these scrappy quilts when we dig through trash cans. Maybe we could all make a block a day of what we have then keep on until we have enough for some type of quilt. Another excellant choice for receipents would be send some to our service personnel. We all have so many projects and other things going, but one block could lead to another and another, and all across this great world we could help others. Not just in the US, but we have quilters on here from France, Australia, England, Canada, and Russia, I don't mean to leave anyone out, but these are some of the countries with quilters that I have read their posts. Just a few thoughts thrown out, what do yall think. Gerbie.

irma tapia 08-26-2010 05:14 AM

That's a great idea Gerbie. I am quilting for Quilts for Kids and let me tell you, it gives me so much joy to be part of this great charity.

monetgardening 08-26-2010 01:59 PM

These are all so gorgeous. I seriously like the idea of sending a quilt to anyone in the services. I'm thinking how nice it would be to send a quilt of this type to a service person away from home. Maybe we could all contribute a square that we make and sign with where we are from also and someone could sew it together and send it? I would definitely be willing to contribute to the cost.

irma tapia 08-26-2010 04:14 PM

I think it would be wise to first find out if they can receive this type of gift. They move around a lot and to have a quilt to move with them might be troublesome. Have you ever thought of going to the airport when their flights come in and give it to one of the guys? That is an awesome sight I'm told.

monetgardening 08-26-2010 04:23 PM

It certainly would be an emotional sight. I would be very proud. We wear red on Fridays in Canada as one way to show support for our troops. Although I would love to give one a quilt I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to do it personally, I'd probably find it too difficult to think of someone's baby going to war.

I made one for my grandson last September. He deployed for Iraq two days later. He shares a very small trailer with another soldier and that quilt hangs as their room divider. He told me he'd get it into his gear bag one way or another!! typical young guy/soldier, he loves to play Poker

Hello Jeannie,

This is very encouraging, thank you so much for posting this. God love your dear grandson. What a beautiful gift Jeannie. You are a treasure.

Sincerely
Marie

Now I won;t have to give away my trash can scraps. Thanks for the great idea. I have lots of little pieces left from my postage stamp quilt and several others.ade and sent to Iraq. Used all bigger pieces in kids charity quilts. Thanks again.

That's an even better idea, making a signature square and putting them all together in quilts. we could really make quite a few and get several quilts done that way. I love your idea, I would also be willing to contribute to the cost. Our service personnel are putting their lives on the line for us, and we could at least give them something from home for showing our love, loyalty and encouragement. If we can get this started, we need to find a location to send squares to and make sure we know what size we want to use, etc. Let's put some thought into this and get a few more ideas, for quilt size etc. They would need to have something light weight, to carry around when they are moving from place to place, but I would love to do something for the brave young people. I pray for them and their loved ones left behind all the time. I have donated to care packages that were being set out for them in our local community. I also feel helpless in not doing anything for them when they are doing so much for me and everyone else. This would make me feel so good, just knowing I may give any of them a daily 'hug' lift so to speak, with something from home.

O. K. Marie, so how do you think we need to get this thing rollin along. Perhaps we should start a new thread and call it maybe garbage can quilts for service personnel or what and see how many others might be interested in joining us. Throw out some ideas gal. PM me if you have any new ideas, and we won't take up all of this thread on the topic. We can share with others as well.

monetgardening 08-27-2010 04:43 PM

Ok :) new Topic , here goes.

monetgardening 08-27-2010 04:47 PM

Hi Gerbie,

I looked and I'm not certain how to start a new topic . Would you mind starting it? Never had this problem before.LOL

Thank you Gerbie
Marie

irma tapia 08-28-2010 04:59 AM

I;m all for it but can they receive a quilt, are they going to be able to keep it with them? Can someone find out first? Does anyone have any military ties so we can find out?

irma tapia 08-28-2010 05:02 AM

WOW!!!! Jeannie that's very nice and it's good to know that he has it with him. I guess that answers my question.
